Effect:
The Mighty Magician (you again!) demonstrates the
amazing ability to push a coin straight through his/her own hand.
After one
failed attempt, the magician decides to try again, and this time the coin goes
right through the hand.
Setup:
In
order to do this trick, you'll simply need a coin. A quarter is prefferable, but
any coin can be used really.
Performance:
- Hold out your right hand in a fist, with
your palm facing down.
- Take the quarter in the left hand,
between the thumb and other fingers, and push it against your hand. It should
just push back behind your fingers, making it not visible to the
audience.
- Now, keep your left hand still, and pull
roll your right hand over. While you roll it over, open up your fist. There
will be no quarter in it.
- Look at the audience, and exclaim that
the trick didn't work.
- As soon as you look up at the audience,
roll your right hand back over into a fist, and drop the quarter from your
left hand, into your right hand while it's rolling over. When you look up, the
audience should look up at you as well. This is the distraction you will use,
called misdirection.
- It's all cake from here. The quarter is
already in your right hand, so pretend to push it through, etc. Emphasize it,
and look unsure about what you're doing. Make it seem as though there is a
quarter in your left hand. Then, roll your right hand over, and show them the
quarter.
Tips:
Practice this one many times before
trying it.
The misdirection part of it is where a lot of people fail and reveal
the secret to this trick.
It does work, you just have to time it
right.
