She had lost it! We couldn't believe it. Oh, sorry! My friend Nicky had lost her
great-grandmother's bracelet. It had been passed down in generations for as long as time itself. We had to get it back!
Nicole, Grace and I were staying at Nicky's place. "I don't know what to do," Nicky explained in desperation. Then, out of nowhere, something appeared. It was a grand and ancient book with blood-red fringing and a royal blue cover. But the thing that interested us was the glowing gold print on the cover that spelt out "Witchcraft"!
Nicky, Nicole and Grace were lured towards the warm glow, but I simply sat there in shock. Nicky then went to pick up the book.
After a while, Grace suggested shakily, "I think we should try it. I know it seems stupid but it seems kind of weird that it just appeared." She paused. "It must have some connection with the bracelet, right?" Soon there was a chorus of shaky voices coming out of the darkness: "Let's give it a try!"
The passage about the communication with the spirits instructed us to make a ouija board. We did this by placing all the letters of the alphabet in a circle and putting an up-turned cup in the centre. We were ready!
We were going to communicate with the spirits, and hopefully retrieve the lost bracelet in the process. We sat there in a tight circle, desperately concentrating on making contact with the spirits. One by one we placed our shaking forefingers on the glass. Then Nicky asked the question we hoped would be answered. "We summon the spirits to answer our question, where is the precious bracelet hidden?"
The glass began to quiver under our perspiring hands, rocking from one side to the other and then slowly began to slide. Across the circle it travelled to spell out the message we were awaiting.
And this is what the spirit said, "I am your great-grandmother, Nicky. Your bracelet is hidden under the oak tree in your garden. Take care of it and come and talk to me whenever you wish."
With that Nicky raced outside to retrieve the bracelet that was protruding out from under the oak. She returned with a grin on her face and the glittering bracelet clamped tightly into her hand. Nicky had found the bracelet and in the process gained the spell book - her gateway to her great-grandmother.
Suddenly, the pages started flipping wildly and endlessly. Then it stopped just as suddenly as it had started and revealed a page with the heading, "Communication with the spirits." Then the glowing flickered then stopped abruptly and we all were left there, mouths gaping in the darkness.![]()
